The incumbent may serve as a provider for Veterans with spinal cord injury and/or disease either in the home or a clinic setting. This individual will need to possess a keen awareness of customer service concepts, the ability to manage activity in a busy outpatient setting involving a variety of patients from varying socioeconomic and educational backgrounds and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. Strong clinical assessment and organizational skills as well as highly developed and effective interpersonal skills are required. This individual must consistently project a positive image for VA Black Hills Health Care System.
WORK SCHEDULE: Work schedule will be Weekdays, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
LOCATION: This position is located in the Home Based Primary Care Program (HBPC) within the Extended Care and Rehab Service Line at the Fort Meade campus with travel to Veteran homes primarily within the service area of the HBPC team (60 mile radius from Fort Meade).

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:
  • Must have current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia and must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a Nurse Practitioner in a State. (NOTE: This position requires the incumbent to work as a licensed independent practitioner. Applicant must possess a license from a State granting independent practice or, if selected, must be willing to obtain a license from a State granting independent practice upon hire.)
  • Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. 1) The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN), (formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), 2) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE accredits bachelors and masters degree programs. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualified for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
  • A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.]

Physical Requirements: Position requires moderate to heavy lifting and carrying, pushing, walking and standing for extended periods, ability for simultaneous rapid and mental and muscular coordination, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4 (one eye, glasses permitted), ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability; hearing aid permitted. Incumbents may experience exposure to blood and body fluids.None
