Experienced RN Circulator with experience in NeuroSpine and Orthopedics preferred. Weekdays only.

Main Function

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, Standards of Practice as defined by ANA, AORN, ASPAN and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/caregiver. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competencies to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice and monitors the environment to provide safe patient care. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.


a) Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process

b) Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management

c) Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively

d) Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time

e) Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability

f) Performs comprehensive assessment of patient's clinical condition and psychosocial needs inclusive of caregiver needs during the Perioperative period.

g) Ensure patient readiness for surgery including, but not limited to, NPO status, medication administration, surgical site verification and marking and chart completeness.

h) Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs

i) Implement plan of care safely and effectively and provides safe environment, including, but not limited to:1) positioning patient safely, padding bony prominences and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection 2) Ensuring correct prepping and draping procedures 3) Conducting "time out" process prior to incision to ensure correct patient, correct procedures and correct surgical site. 4) Ensure asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to sterile field aseptically; ensures supplies are not expired. 5) Accounting for all sponges, needles, sharps, during and after the procedures and documenting appropriately.

j) Provides comfort and reassurance to patient

k) Maintains patients' privacy and dignity

l) Explains intra-operative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient

m) Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects.

n) Performs the circulating nurse's role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures

o) Prepares and cleanse operating room before, between and after cases according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed

p) Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure

q) Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia

r) Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures

s) Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards

t) Accurately records, labels, and handles specimens.

u) Provides for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters

v) Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly

w) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician

x) Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/directions

y) Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures in a timely manner.

z) Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about patient's status

aa) Collaborates with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient turn-around time between procedures.

a) Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care

b) Interacts with professional staff, patients, families, visitors, fellow employees in a mature,

responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment

c) Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved.


1. Demonstrates cooperative work attitude toward and with employees, physicians, management, patients, families, visitors, contract service providers and vendors.

2. Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and general public

4. Demonstrates ability to function independently; demonstrates ability to multi-task

5. Cross trains to a minimum of two clinical areas.



1. High school graduate or GED certificate recipient

2. Graduate of accredited school of nursing

3. RN with active license in appropriate state and Operating Room Circulator experience

4. BLS certified

5. ACLS and PALS (if applicable for patient population) within 6 months of hire

6. Leadership qualities

7. Strong ethical and moral character references

8. Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English

9. Must be able to provide proof of identity and their right to work in the United States.


1. Prefer Perioperative outpatient experience in NeuroSpine and Orthopedics

2. ASC experience

3. Computer literacy
