Current CA R.N. license required. One (1) year previous clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing preferred. Ability to assess the age specific needs for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. BCLS required. ACLS required within 90 days of hire. Management Assaultive Behavior (MAB) is required within 90 days of hire.


Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Lifting up to 100 pounds. Pulling and pushing up to 180 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Finger dexterity. Frequent exposure to stressful situation. Constant public and patient contact.


Constant exposure to noise. Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Occasional exposure to chemicals and general cleaning agents. Shift hours may vary dependent upon the department needs to include weekends and holidays.

* General Staff Accountabilities

· Adheres to the Dress Code.

· Demonstrates an understanding of their personal role in the case of fire/disaster and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

· Functions with an awareness of patient safety issues and applies basic principles of safety as identified within the facility.

· Follows the occurrence reporting policy and procedure in reporting any potential safety issues.

* Job Specific Accountabilities

· Consistently demonstrates the ability to implement and utilize the nursing process when providing care.

· Performs a complete physical-psychosocial assessment of each patient and plans care accordingly. Provides quality care based on the needs of the patient and family. Accurately perceives complications and patient's perception of illness through these assessment skills.

· Orients patient and family to room, unit and any expected procedures. Involves patient/family directly in any patient teaching necessary for post op recovery of safe care at home. Utilizes patient family medical records of any other available source to gain maximum information on any new patient.

· Accurately documents initial assessment on admission profile, subsequent assessment documentation on Nurses' Notes in clear, complete and concise manner. Includes all details involving patient care such as daily weight, I&O, diet, activity and any extra equipment used.

· Treatment plans are consistently formulated; initiated and updated and/or modified according to patient's status, short-term and long-term goals are identified. Documents any teaching done with patient, family or significant other.

· Demonstrates an attentive, sensitive and supportive attitude with patients, families and significant others. Functions in a calm manner in psychological stressful situations. Demonstrates respect for human rights and dignity.

· Demonstrates the ability to carry out a heavy patient load in short staff circumstances. Delegates effectively when necessary.

· Accepts additional assignments as required.

· Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize, establish, and deal with priorities.

· Responsible for the completion of all duties during the shift. Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of a real departmental need.

· Demonstrates knowledge of legal aspects and liabilities of nursing practice. Practices according to this knowledge.

· Seeks assistance from peers or supervisor as necessary in solving clinical problems.

· Both shares and accepts clinical expertise when deemed necessary in decision making on patient care.

· Documents teaching done with patient and family.

· As the coordinator of care, the registered nurse shall be responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization, and shall participate as needed in patient handling in accordance with the nurse's job description and professional judgment.

· Performs other duties as assigned.
