The Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) utilizes the nursing process based on an expanded knowledge base of pathophysiology and pharmacology to provide comprehensive health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with potential or actual hematologic/oncologic diagnoses. Clinical decisions are formulated in consultation and collaboration with attending physicians. As an Advanced Practice nurse, the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is additionally involved in education, consultation, and research at various levels. This position involves the coordination of inpatient admission, treatment, follow-up, and discharge planning for the patient population served. Performs clinical procedures under the direction of the attending physician and/or approved protocols. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, coordinates patient care through the healthcare continuum.

  • Acts as a clinical resource/role model for service lines served
  • Provides and/or coordinates educational activities for both staff and patients
  • Participates in research activities in compliance with IRB and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
  • Able to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Strong problem solving skills in addition to management skills, including the ability to deal with crisis situations
  • Able to work with all levels of the multidisciplinary team to improve process and enhance patient outcomes

  • G raduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing

  • MSN

  • Current RN and APRN license in the State of Texas

  • Certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the PNBC

  • Current American Heart Association BLS provider.

  • Current American Heart Association PALS provider.

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience as a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner preferred or minimum of 5 years of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology clinical experience required

  • Prescriptive Authority/DEA# within 1 year of hire.

  • CPHON or CPON Certification required within 6 months of hire

  • Current APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider within 6 months of hire

  • APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor within 1 year of hire
