The Pediatric ICU Unit at VCU Medical Center provides the only full-service children's care in central Virginia, including a Level 1 pediatric Trauma and Burn Center. The 21-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a vital part of the pediatric programming, caring for the most critically ill infants, children, adolescents and their families, who have a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries. Exquisite emotional acumen and psychosocial skills are paramount to effectively deliver nursing care to children and their caregivers as they progress through the unnatural experience of having an infant, toddler or adolescent with an acute, life-threatening illness.
