Position Summary
Compass Oncology, the largest multi-specialty medical oncology practice in the Pacific Northwest, is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse – Patient Care Coordinator to join our team at our Vancouver Cancer Center. Working as part of a team that is on the cutting edge of cancer care and treatment, our LPN - PCC plays a crucial role in the scheduling and coordination of care for new patients as they navigate the Cancer Care Continuum. This is a hybrid role that will require clinical skills and acumen, with a strong foundation in medical office administration.

SCOPE:

Under general supervision, serves as the patients’ medical liaison among the referring practice, hospital, support services, and payors. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures and applies to a variety of situations appropriately. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish responsibilities. Performs a wide variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position is responsible for ensuring timely access for new patients and timely communication to the referring/primary care physicians of a new patient consult.
  • On behalf of the patient, coordinates physician referrals, schedules oncology related medical appointments within the practice, and contacts out of state agencies/facilities for patient records. Ensures accurate document is available in the medical chart for the new patient consult.
  • An awareness of insurance coverage/prior authorizationObtains and maintains accurate patient demographics.
  • Provides educational materials to patient and family.
  • Networks within the community to learn and support referring providers/practices.
  • Researches and responds to routine and non-routine inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Requests assistance from providers, nursing and scheduling staff on complex issues in order to facilitate timely scheduling of new patients.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding the referral scheduling process.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • This position requires at least 3 years experience as a practical nurse.
  • Current Washington State LPN license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
