What You Will Do:


Under close supervision, perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair of medical equipment of low to medium complexity. Perform incoming inspections, safety testing, minor calibration, and minor repairs on general medical equipment in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer's operator and technical service manuals.

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance service on medical equipment in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer's operator and technical service manuals.
  • Consults with higher level biomedical technician for resolution of complex repair issues.
  • Conducts departmental rounds with customers to promote communication and learn operations.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, staff and the broader health care community.
  • Performs repairs, tests and calibrates medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s literature recommendations and other established guidelines.
  • Performs assigned duties in accordance with current policies and procedures, including equipment inspection, minor repairs and planned maintenance, all under the appropriate supervision.
  • Assists in the ordering of parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot medical equipment faults on general medical equipment within a given time period with general supervision.
  • Completes assigned work in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize and plan scheduled daily work load with general supervision.
  • Facilitate repairs and maintenance on medical equipment with general supervision.
  • Follows established procedures and works in a safe manner.
  • Maintains timely, accurate and thorough documentation required, as outlined in current policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of regulatory agencies, policies, codes and standards that apply.
  • Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization and cost containment.
  • Provide On-Call coverage on a rotating basis, as required.
  • Position requires some travel to support off campus facilities.
  • Perform all other assigned job duties as required.

What You Need to Be Successful:


Must meet one of the following (required):
  • Associate’s Degree (AAS) in Biomedical Technology or related field
  • Certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related field
  • Military Biomedical Technology Course or equivalent technical program

  • Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Certification is preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of electronics and biomedical engineering technology as applied to the calibration and repair of biomedical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of electronic component characteristics in relation to configuration in AC/DC circuits.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital electronics concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to effectively use electronic and pneumatic measuring devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to properly operate various test measuring diagnostic equipment; such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, DC power supply, electrical safety analyzer, and pressure/vacuum meter/gauge.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use and operation of medical equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend medical equipment operation and technical service manuals.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic circuit schematics properly.
  • Ability to recognize electronic components and their symbols as used in schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot medical equipment faults and remedy within a given time period with general supervision.
  • Ability to a use computer to perform data entry of statistical information into the department's computerized database.
