OVERALL PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide routine, standardized, safe nursing care for community-based ambulatory patients under the supervision of medical provider(s) while promoting efficient patient flow.
Ensures that all required/requested records are in the patient chart/EHR prior to each patient encounter in an efficient and timely manner to include processing lab/test results into the patient chart/EHR;
Rooms patients in a timely and efficient manner. Obtains brief medical history and chief complaint from patients during rooming encounter;
Documents patients vital statistics and other encounter data in the patient chart/EHR;
Prepares exam rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment;
Cleans exam rooms between procedures and exams;
Maintains a clean work environment;
Documents and reconciles all patient allergies and medications in the patient chart/EHR at each visit;
Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other activities related to direct patient care;
Administers immunizations and injectable medications as prescribed by a provider;
Draws blood and/or obtains patient body fluid specimens as ordered by a provider and prepares specimens for LabCorp pick-up. Adheres to both the AID Upstate Exposure Control Plan and Waste Management Protocols when working with patients and any patient specimens, bodily fluids and surfaces or instruments soiled with patient bodily fluids;
Arranges for patient appointments for diagnostic testing/labs, consults, referrals and hospital admissions;
Calls in or e-scribes prescriptions for patients according to provider order/standing order and documents appropriately in the patients chart/EHR;
Receives and returns clinically related telephone calls-screening and forwarding those requiring provider actionand documents appropriately in the patients chart/EHR;
Promotes positive health behaviors and self-care skills through patient education;
Monitors and maintains stock of medical supplies and proper functioning/cleaning of equipment;
Maintains patient care equipment logs relating to quality control as appropriate.
This employee is responsible for reporting to work on time such that he/she is ready for the first patient(s) at their appointed time. This position is responsible for assisting medical providers with providing routine medical care to our patients in a clinical setting. This position will be responsible for escorting patients throughout the clinic setting during their medical visit. The RN/LPN will assist the physician with pre-encounter preparations, any procedures, administration of medications, as well as post-encounter follow-up. This position will be responsible for maintaining adequate supplies, keeping a clean and orderly clinical area and ensuring that our patients receive the best care we can provide with professionalism and compassion.
