What You Will Do:


Recruits medically underserved women to receive breast cancer screening through Wellness for Women and the ShoreRegionalBreastCenter. Breast screening services of Shore Health System’s Regional Cancer Program. Requires the same cultural background as the women in the outreach population, based on the belief that women are more likely to respond positively to other women of similar race, education and income level. Helps to establish a comfort level that is shared with the participating women. Plays an integral role in many of the outreach programs and special events that take place specifically to recruit and recall women.

  • Provides health information to medically underserved women under the direction of the WFW Coordinator and/or the SRBC Coordinator. Shares information with women regarding breast cancer screening. If a breast cancer survivor, shares own experience with women.
  • Travels to community centers, health and other neighborhood or county fairs, shopping centers, local job sites, churches, clinics, department stores, supermarkets, doctor’s offices and clinics to distribute educational materials and to recruit women for screening.
  • Assists in preparing and assembling material for special events, exhibits, fairs, doctor’s offices, etc.
  • Helps coordinate to identify local community groups and organizations that can help target medically underserved women.
  • Assists the Coordinators at special events, meetings, or programs to raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer screening.
  • Works to bring current clients back for annual re-screening through phone calls, post card and/or reminder letters and home visits.
  • Provides case management to targeted populations and high risk women to ensure receipt of ongoing services.
  • Maintains and provides statistics on all encounters through monthly reports to Coordinators.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.
  • Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (if called), Code D (if called).
  • Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Maintain the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting may be substituted for the required education.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • For Hispanic outreach worker, bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Has own car and motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
  • He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures
