JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing (BT), this position serves as a clinical resource to unit staff. Assists with nursing personnel regarding policies and procedures, standards of care, and state and federal regulations that govern Long-term Care. Assists with coordinating nursing care and plans of care for residents and monitoring quality and appropriateness of nursing care. Monitors staff performance according to facility policy. Performs other duties as required.

Assists department management in developing budgets and identifying cost containment activities.

Manages Budd Terrace nursing staff employee performance. Resolves Human resource-related issues. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies
competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Coordinates unit staffing schedules based on patient care requirements and staff competence; plans and monitors workflow. Participates in developing goals and objectives for the unit nursing staff. Evaluates the impact of policies on daily operations and provides appropriate feedback to management. Completes various management reports and evaluates the need for revisions.

Communicates patients' needs to interdepartmental and intradepartmental staff as appropriate. Coordinates resources within the unit to provide optimal patient care. Functions as patient advocate in resolving issues related to patient care; escalates appropriate issues to department director. Monitors issues and resolutions. Counsels and educates patient and family on the variety of issues;
assesses need for intervention and supports and reinforces clinical instructions.

Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Schedules, plans and supports staff education. Assesses staff needs and develops management focused in-service programs including time management, team building, and leadership. Actively participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews and actively chairs or participates in unit based or hospital based committees as appropriate. Provides direction, guidance, and clarification for less experienced staff on policies, scheduling, assignments, time management, organizational skills and daily
operations. Facilitates quality improvement change process by emphasizing operations, safety, administration, and daily operations. Provides interdepartmental and intradepartmental liaison for the unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN school of nursing. Current license in the State of Georgia. Minimum of 3 years recent experience in Long-term Care facility with at least 2 years as a supervisor. BLS, ACLS, and Healthcare Provider certifications required. Knowledge of state and federal regulations that govern long term care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting ; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation ; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
