General Summary

The Nurse – EOHS is the mid level provider who will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team and responsible for providing comprehensive expert care to patients. Patients served include employees and members of Volunteer Services of Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Department Duties and Responisibilites

1. Designs, implements and directs a hospital-wide employee occupational health program. Plans, implements and evaluates employee health services to include pre-employment and annual surveillances, health assessments, immunizations, work-related exposures, illnesses and injuries.
2. Provides education, consultation and guidance to hospital staff and medical staff.
3. Develops, integrates, manages and controls the daily operational components of the Employee Occupational Health Services Department.
4. Updates and seeks approval from Administration and the Infection Control Committee annually.
5. Works in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources to implement and maintain employee health policies and
procedures, and standards of care provisions that are epidemiologically sound.
6. Communicates directly and/or indirectly with department of Human Resources on issues relating to employee health and workers’ compensation.
7. Communicates directly and/or indirectly with medical staff and Hospital Learning Department on issues relating to the educational needs of the employee health staff.

Clinical Practice

1. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served: Adolescent, Adult, Adult-Geriatric
2. Conducts comprehensive or episodic assessments of patients to include pre-employment histories and physical examinations and work-related injuries or illnesses.
3. Establishes appropriate medical diagnosis for acute, chronic or episodic health problems.
4. Prescribes and treats health needs of patients; performs treatment/procedures as indicated.
5. Develops and implements individualized care plans with patient based on diagnosis, patient care/age-specific needs and patient
outcomes with the goal of returning the employee to duty status as soon as possible.
6. Completes and maintains appropriate documentation and records.
7. Evaluates pharmacotherapeutic and non-pharmacological regimens and prescribes or dispenses appropriate medications.
8. Collaborates with physician or other health care team members regarding patient’s health care needs, outcomes and effectiveness of care plan.
9. Collaborates with Workers’ Compensation Coordinator regarding duty status of employee.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Master of Science degree, with completion of an accredited Nurse Program required.
  • Current state licensure or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute care experience required.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing patient care is required.
  • Meets requirements to maintain clinical privileges as a member of the BWMC Staff.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
