What You Will Do:

General Summary

A Pathologists’ Assistant is a healthcare professional who is qualified by academic and practical training to provide services in anatomic pathology under the direction and supervision of a licensed, Board Certified or Board eligible

Pathologist. A Pathologists’ Assistant need not provide all of the services outlined below, however, it is expected that the individual will have received appropriate academic and practical training to provide such services described under Duties and Responsibilities.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Laboratory Medical Director and Associate Pathologists and communicates with Section Supervisor and Laboratory Administrative Director.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program is required. Must be certified by a national registry such as ASCP, or attain such registry within one year of hire date.
  • Six months of professional experience assisting with surgical pathology examinations and autopsies is required. Teaching experience in a laboratory or pathology classroom setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles of surgical pathology, clinical laboratory processes, testing and analytical procedures and techniques and various specialized laboratory equipment (of the assigned laboratory unit), including the routine maintenance and calibration thereof. Equipment knowledge must include routine radiology equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer and computerized personal and network systems for logging and tracking laboratory test results and specimen information.
