What You Will Do:

Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Ortho - PRN - UM BWMC

Position Highlights
  • PRN level requirements are determined between candidate and hiring manager
  • 5 West, Med Surg Ortho, is a 30 private bed unit which provides care to medical/surgical inpatients with a specialty focus on the Orthopaedic patient
  • Length of stay for a noncomplicated orthopaedic patient is 1- 3 days post op
  • Room 580 has the capacity to function as a negative pressure room, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for patients requiring airborne precautions
  • Unit provides 24-hour nursing care for patients ranging in age from 14 to 100+
  • Opportunity to work with a wide variety of medical/surgical patients, but the majority of those treated are orthopaedic medical and surgical patients, spine and back medical and surgical patients, vascular surgical patients and general surgical patients
  • Patients frequently present with diverse comorbidities to include hypertension, diabetes, chronic renal disease, chronic pain, and substance abuse
  • Typical surgical treatment are for conditions such as bone fractures, degenerative joint diseases, osteomyelitis, and joint replacements, spinal stenosis, spondylitis, and herniated discs
  • Typical surgical treatements include fusions, laminectomies, and decompressions with or without instrumentations, intramedullary nailing, internal and external fixation and traction

What You Need to Be Successful:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland
  • Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland
  • Successful completion of a refresher course within past 6 months if nursing practice has not occurred within the past 5 years
  • 1+ year of RN experience preferred; acute care RN experience preferred, orthopedics RN experience a plus
  • Willing to teach orthopedics piece
  • BLS required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced unit
