  NYU Langone-Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The medical center is central to a comprehensive network of affiliated ambulatory and outpatient practices, and serves as NYU Langone Medical Center's anchor for healthcare access, growth, and delivery in the entire borough.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Phlebotomist.

In this role, the successful candidate Collects blood as assigned. Processes specimens for subsequent testing by technical staff. Performs general clerical and other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Trained to recognize potential hazards in the workplace and proper procedures for handling hazardous substances. Those working in the Histology Department are trained in additional procedures for disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Completes tasks within appropriate time frame and in order of priority.
  • Accepts direction and changes in assignment willingly.
  • Perform general clerical duties as required.
  • Processes specimens (centrifuging, separating, numbering, labelling, organizing, etc.) for subsequent testing by the technical staff.
  • Transports inter and intradepartmental laboratory reports.
  • Occasionally escorts patients to other areas of the Medical Center.
  • Forwards reports to physicians.
  • Maintains ledgers and required statistics.
  • Registers out-patients and processes manual or computer generated requests forms.
  • Instructs out-patients on protocol for various laboratory tests.
  • Schedules laboratory appointments for out-patients.
  • Maintains inventory of section supplies.
  • Transmits laboratory reports, utilizing computer terminal.
  • Answers telephone inquires.
  • Log-in all requests and distributes specimens to appropriate sections.
  • Accepts and clocks-in all specimens as required.
  • Collects blood by venipuncture or finger puncture on patients as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Graduate or G.E.D.
Completion of approved Phlebotomy program with documentation of training or 200 hours of phlebotomy training required.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
