Hours: Work days are generally Monday - Friday daytime hours. There are occasions when other hours are needed due to implementation of projects/upgrades, meeting times, or employee needs.

Functioning in the three spheres of influence (patient care, nurse/nursing practice, organization/system) the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is the clinical leader for a program or area of nursing practice (Critical Care). Population served is based on their education, experience and certification.


The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include:

(1) clinical expertise in a focused area applied to direct care competency

(2) consultation competency

(3) systems leadership competency

(4) collaboration competency

(5) coaching competency

(6) research competency

(7) ethical decision-making, moral agency, and advocacy

(8) informatics competency


The CNS coordinates and guides clinical practice activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. The CNS is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of nursing practice at the unit/system, local, state, national, and/or international level.


This position requires work at both Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.



  • Graduate degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing with a clinical focus from an accredited school as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Current Certification as a CNS.
  • Valid State of WI (or eNLC State) RN License. 
  • BLS (CPR) Certification. 
  • At least 3 years, within the past 5 years, of experience in critical care nursing.
  • Demonstrated skills at the level of an advanced practice nurse in direct patient care, consultation, systems leadership, collaboration, coaching, research, ethical decision making/moral agency/advocacy, and informatics.
  • Demonstrated ability at the level of an advanced practice nurse to utilize evidence to develop, teach, guide, and implement practice standards and policies.
