Registered Nurse Inpatient Training/Education Specialist
Department: Nursing Admin - Hospital
Hours: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm/ variable
The registered nurse coordinates, plans and provides educational programs and in-services, contributing to the delivery of quality health care by educating all staff regarding current policies and evolving, best practices. Also develops and designs tools and guidelines that enhance the value of care delivery to Virginia Mason patients. Collaborates with CPPD in the design and coordination of orientation programs for new staff. Tracks progress of new employees and may complete or assist manager and CPPD specialist with input for the probationary evaluation. Helps ensure all staff meet mandatory educational requirements. The registered nurse assesses departmental needs for educational programs based upon patient outcomes and quality data, regulatory requirements, and new program or clinical offerings. Addresses educational needs of all unit based staff including RNs, Patient Care Techs, ED techs and Monitor Techs. Collaborates with informatics staff to provide online education, when determined to be advantageous. The registered nurse contributes and delivers content to unit-based orientation and skills days as needed Participates in regulatory compliance reviews, survey preparation and contributes to “state of readiness” for JCAHO, DOH and other regulatory/certifying bodies. Completes special projects as assigned.

Required: This position requires a Washington State RN license and a BSN. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in inpatient nursing practice, with at least 3 years in either a critical care or neuro intensive care unit. The incumbent must possess excellent communication, teaching, group facilitation and presentation skills.
Certification in practice area is required within 1 year of beginning role (Critical Care educator: CCRN and Neuro educator: CNRN).
Preferred: Prior experience as an educator and relevant clinic experience.
