What You Will Do:

The Division of Community Psychiatry is seeking a qualified registered nurse for the Walter P. Carter Fayette Outpatient Mental Health Clinic on the Continuous Care Team (CCT) or the adult team. The clinic is a part of a large academic Department of Psychiatry that is committed to excellence in service, teaching and research. The clinic provides comprehensive mental health services to adults and children. The clinic is located in the 701 W. Pratt Street building.

The CCT provides psychiatric treatment, substance abuse and case management services to a population of patients requiring frequent and intensive interventions. The CCT combines elements of the PACT model and traditional outpatient treatment. The incumbent carries a caseload of adult patients who are primarily seriously and persistently mentally ill. Caseload size is approximately 30.

The adult team provides psychiatric treatment, substance abuse and case management services to adults with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses. Caseload size is approximately 65-70.

As a primary therapist on a multidisciplinary team in a community mental health clinic, the incumbent is responsible for providing individual, group and family therapy, as well as case management and dual diagnosis services.

The incumbent also has nursing related responsibilities: coordination of lab services, medication administration, etc.

All applicants must be licensed in the state of Maryland. Applicants must also be eligible for certification by the ANA as a psychiatric and mental health nurse. A minimum of two years experience in the delivery of mental health and dual diagnosis services to the specified population is preferred..

Work hours are 8:30 – 5:00, M-F- NO weekends, holidays or evenings.

Under general supervision, performs the role and responsibilities of a mental health professional providing psychiatric counseling and case management to patients and their families in an outpatient mental health program. Provides individual, group and family counseling to patients who are identified as needing psychiatric services. Coordinates specific nursing functions within the outpatient program. Functions within a multidisciplinary practice model. Assumes nursing leadership in outpatient and community settings to impact on care delivered to the identified patient population. Day Shift

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. B.S.N. or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Certification by American Nurses Association in psychiatric and mental health practice preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical psychiatric nursing experience is required.
