What You Will Do:

The Clinical Nurse I supports the work of the Women's Health Association by applying the nursing process in a comprehensive approach to identifying patient problems and needs and develops treatment plans of care based on evidence based practice and core measures. Participates in the management of high risk OB patients including performing diagnostic testing when necessary.
COLLABORATES WITH THE PATIENT, SIGNIFICANT OTHERS AND ANCILLARY DEPARTMENTS TO BECOME A MULTIDISCIPLINARY HEALTHCARE TEAM AND PROVIDE CARE THAT IS CONTINUOUS AND WELL COORDINATED: Prioritizes work assignments and adjust to meet changing priorities. Consults and refers to other healthcare professionals. Delegates work to the healthcare team. Plans delivery of care according to patient acuity and staff competencies. Completes disability forms for patients in a timely fashion and in accordance with the FMLA. Acts as a patient advocate and upholds patients' rights. Appropriately uses organizational mechanisms to refer ethical concerns. Promotes and maintains a safe, clean and orderly environment.
PARTICIPATES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF EMERGENCIES AND HIGH RISK OB/GYN PATIENTS. Calculates and/or administers medications accurately and timely. Maintains proficiency with unit specific equipment, troubleshoots and reports malfunctions promptly. Accurately triages patient calls. Reviews and triages results of diagnostic tests. contacting patients with results. Accurately labels specimens and prepares for appropriate lab analysis according to insurance carrier. Prepares patient for antenatal testing according to hospital policy. Accurately instructs patients on proper technique of self-injection of medication to include specific site location, and signs and symptoms of a reaction. Consistently follows-up on glucose values of diabetic patients and provides ongoing education and reinforcement. Establishes and maintains an intravenous site as ordered. Maintains unit specific statistics such as OB log, number of deliveries per fiscal year. Initiates new OB histories as directed, provides orientation to the new OB packet and office practices and provides tours as needed. Responds quickly, calmly and efficiently in emergency situations. Maintains BLS/CPR and Code Review. Maintains knowledge and standards of appropriate use of emergency response mechanisms and equipment. Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergencies while triaging patient phone calls.
PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE PATIENT CARE ACCORDING TO ORGANIZATIONAL POLICY AND PROTOCOL.: Reassess patient condition per policy. Interprets and utilizes clinical data in the plan of care. Assesses patient for risk factors. Recognizes and integrates patient special needs and individualizes care. Adheres to infection control standards specific to patient care. Responds effectively in an emergency situation so that the patient's immediate needs are addressed. Follows patient care policies regarding abuse recognition and referral process, blood and blood component administration. Assesses learning needs, readiness to learn and actual or potential barriers to learning. Incorporates education into daily patient activity (i.e. medication, equipment, food-drug interactions). Individualizes educational plan based on age, cultural and spiritual values. Documents all activities as appropriate. Respects patients rights to privacy, calling by name and identifying self. Establishes and maintains a positive working rapport with all physicians and nursing staff.

What You Need to Be Successful:

0 - 1 year Experienced in Phlebotomy, IV's Home care and insurance referrals (Required)
2 - 4 years Experience in Fetal Monitoring and interpretation (Required)
2 - 4 years OB/GYN experience (Required)
