The Section of Hospital Medicine is pleased to offer two positions in our second cohort of the Advanced Practitioner Fellowship in Hospital Medicine. This program is a 12-month post-graduate fellowship program designed to provide structured mentorship for fully licensed practitioners to successfully transition into independent practice of hospital medicine. There is a growing need for formal post-graduate training programs as identified in the Institute of Medicine “Future of Nursing” report. Our fellowship program is the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest region. Virginia Mason has a well-established hospital medicine group with experience in training medical residents. Washington state regulations allow for nurse practitioners to practice to the full scope of their licenses. Virginia Mason allows nurse practitioners to be fully privileged in the hospital. Qualified candidates will have a successfully matriculated from a graduate nurse practitioner program in acute care, adult-gerontology or family practice tracks. Preference will be given to those candidates with doctorates, and those candidates with hospital based experience as a bedside nurse or in clinical rotations.

  • Washington State Registered Nurse License and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License are required for this job.

  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers may be required depending on the position, as well as prescriptive authority.

  • Advanced background in nursing; an understanding of anatomy, physiology, histology, and pharmacology; and strong interpersonal and counseling skills.

  • Certification by specialty area as well as work experience in specialty area may be required, depending on the position.

  • PA-C

    • This position requires Certification as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority in the State of Washington.
