Assesses learning needs, designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates educational programs (orientations, continuing education, and in-services) that facilitate the professional growth, knowledge and skill development, competency, applicable regulatory standards, and attainment of standards of care for direct care providers within inpatient and outpatient clinical departments. Utilizes the educational design process, nursing theory, nursing clinical expertise, standards of practice, evidence based practice, and adult education principles to impact the quality of patient care as an expert educator, consultant, and project manager. Ensures that applicable regulatory standards and clinical standards of care are met within the organization related to associate competency, patient education, and other education related standards.


• B.S. in Nursing

• Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, or other related graduate field of study preferred


• 5 years experience preferred to include: 3 years clinical nursing experience and 2 years staff development, academic teaching

and/or project development coordination.

• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, the LEARN e-learning platform, and the Meditech electronic

documentation system in clinical areas of expertise.


• Current Colorado Registered Nurse License


• ACLS as required for assigned department of education focus



• Maintains accountability for integrating the multidisciplinary process in assessment, problem identification, planning, designing,

implementing and evaluating in partnership with clinical managers, nursing leadership, unit educators, and nursing associates.

• Responsible for clinical orientation of new clinical associates for department of education focus and Patient Care Orientation as


• Works with organizational leaders to plan and deploy essential and just-in-time training.

• Plans, oversees, and participates in competency validation of nursing and other clinical associates.

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates staff development opportunities that align with facility, system, and corporate

strategic initiatives.

• Customizes and implements education, including Meditech changes, for the organization from entity to unit level.

• Is independent in the design, coordination, and deployment of high fidelity simulation in planning for and assessing clinical staff


• Coordinates and/or participates in committees as as deemed appropriate by the Director of Professional Resources.

• Performs program planning and project management activities related to improving associate knowledge, skills, and competency.

• Utilizes principles of adult learning in assessing effectiveness of planned education modalities, including leveraging e-learning.

• Conducts designed educational offerings in a professional and organized manner.

• Responsible for ensuring excellent open communications within the department, customers, and the organization.

• Professional role model for all staff demonstrating ethical/legal/professional nursing process.

• Teamwork and Collaboration: Functions effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication,

mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.

• Participates in developing and monitoring individualized staff performance improvement plans with clinical department leadership

as requested.


• Acts as a change agent in support of house wide education initiatives.

• Acts as member of education support team for management of quality and regulatory initiatives and projects.

• Advances healthcare practice by developing and integrating policies, procedures and standards by being familiar with companywide

policies and procedures.

• Participates in professional organizations.

• Is knowledgeable in current healthcare trends and related legislative issues.

• Evidence-based practice and adult learning theory is reflected in project and course content.

• Identifies educational needs and opportunities using data from the organization such as regulatory requirements survey

information, employee and customer input (evaluation data).

• Collaborates with staff and management in differentiating between educational versus performance/compliance issues in order to

design an effective plan of action.

• Identifies barriers to learning and facilitates solutions to remove those barriers.

• Seeks out continuous learning opportunities and continuing education in areas of staff development and clinical expertise.

• Adapts to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting.


• Thoroughly evaluates quality of programs and services offered, including class evaluations and incorporation of feedback into

program improvement.

• Is responsible to report course statistics, including evaluation data, attendance numbers and types, completion or success scores,

etc to department director.

• Identifies and evaluates appropriate products, programs, and services, based upon needs assessment for groups served, for

planning of or improving of educational offerings. Groups served include employees, managers, executives, and associates.

GROWTH – 15%

• Responsible to work collaboratively with informatics team, other subject matter experts, and Advanced Practice Nurses in needs

assessment, program/education planning, and implementation of educational offerings that support patient care, staff

development, service line growth, and advancements in Meditech.

• Ensures active advertising/marketing of educational in-services and programs throughout the organization to facilitate maximum

session participation.


• Prepares budgets and workshop cost analysis forms related to specific educational activities/programs for incorporation in the

department’s budget.

• Participates in the budget planning process by providing department director with equipment costs, repair costs, book costs, and

other related forecasted expenses.

• Plans, evaluates, and implements program changes to maximize organizational resources and demonstrate best return on

investment for the organization.

• Manages own payroll hours and time effectively to meet the expected departmental outcomes.


• Works with the Manager of Professional Development to assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate all processes related to nursing

student clinical rotations.

• Maintains a positive relationship with schools of nursing and other community partners.
