Job Description

Job Summary:

The RN Charge Nurse I coordinates unit staffing and provides leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

Responsibilities:

  • Assigns, directs, educates and monitors nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contributes to or performs performance evaluations of staff.

  • Assesses daily patient care needs and develops and distributes patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.

  • Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.

  • Competently applies the Patient Centered Care Nursing Process including the patient /family, Evidence-Based Practices (EBP), Safety and Process Improvement for patient and unit outcomes of care.

  • Competently applies collaborative teamwork and leadership as a member of an inter-professional team to coordinate patient centered care for quality patient and unit outcomes of care processes.

  • Competently applies information resources technology and processes to communicate for quality patient outcomes and unit outcomes of care and processes.

  • Responsibilities may vary over time. Required to perform other duties as required for the efficiency and effectiveness of the department and job role.

Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):

    • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 

    • Licensed Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 

Education:

  • Associates degree required

  • Bachelor in Nursing preferred

Work Experience:

  • One year experience in area of specialty.

  • Clinically competent with a comprehensive knowledge of the nursing specialty in which he/she will practice.

  • Must demonstrate excellence in patient care and interpersonal skills with both patients/families and colleagues.
