  Nurse Technician - 1 North
Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and a Licensed Vocational Nurse for the Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit, the Nursing Assistant provides a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, young adult, middle adult, and older adult patients admitted for medical/surgical/ problems.    The Nursing Assistant supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff and a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital.  The Nursing Assistant will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members according to the standards of behavior.   The Nursing Assistant must be able to assess his/her learning needs to enhance personal and professional development.  The Nursing Assistant will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in services.  Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area and shift.     Staff in this job category are responsible for consideration of development issues of patients in each of the following age groups identified.     ________Infancy  (Birth to Eighteen (18) Months) ________Toddlers  (Eighteen (18) Months to 3 Years) ________Preschool  (Age 3 to Age 6) ________School Age  (Age 6 to Age 12) ___X____Adolescent  (Age 12 to Age 18) ___X____Young Adult  (Age 18 to Age 40) ___X____Middle Adult  (Age 40 to Age 65) ___X____Older Adult   (Age 65 and Over)

Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of workload fluctuations or departmental needs.                                                                                                       PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the licensed staff, organizes patient care and general unit activities to accomplish required functions.                                           Applies knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the lifespan to identity patient and family requirements relative to age specific needs. Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and their family with a focus on the developmental level of the patient and their level of understanding. Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and their family with a focus on special precautions to minimize the potential for patient injury. Under the direct supervision of a Licensed Nurse: Provides patient care utilizing the correct principles, procedures and techniques. Anticipates potential patient care problems and/or emergencies and reports these to the primary nurse. Provides a safe environment for the provision of nursing care to individual patients by maintaining the patient room in an orderly manner and assisting in maintaining neatness of work environment. Prioritizes and organizes care to be given to each patient, using patient input when possible. Completes work within acceptable time limits. Makes best use of time during shift. Follows through with assignments, informs supervisor of an inability to complete a task. Performs several tasks simultaneously during peak workload situations. Consults supervisor during light workload situations for additional assignments or independently seeks tasks needing to be done. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation, and infectious hazards. Assumes responsibility for own communications and communicates through appropriate channels. Keeps immediate supervisor informed of patient care problems. Interacts and communicates effectively with health care team to keep them informed of changes in patients condition.   PROFESSIONAL GROWTH RESPONSIBILITIES: Attends hospital and unit in-services as required and maintains continuing education based on licensure requirements. Maintains current BLS certification Knows the philosophy, policies, guidelines, and protocols of the hospital, nursing department, and own unit and participates in evaluation and revision of same. Participates in unit process improvement activities.
