As a key member of our National Cord Blood Program, and reporting to the Director of Donor Services, you will work with mothers to collect cord blood units, obtain consents, explain procedures, and gather medical histories for both mothers and infants.

Responsibilities include:

  • Enrolling new mothers, and documenting refusals/non-qualifying situations
  • Obtaining and interviewing mother for each cord blood unit collected
  • Requesting consents and explaining procedures
  • Interviewing mothers detailing medical histories and confidential/sensitive information
  • Serving as a resource/reference of Placental Blood Banking
  • Compiling data on enrolled mothers
  • Collecting cord blood and samples as needed
  • Providing input on procedures and proposed changes
  • Performing phlebotomy on umbilical cord using aseptic technique
  • Assisting in the training of new staff
  • Handling other related tasks as needed

To qualify, you must have a current NYS RN License, practical experience in a hospital setting (preferably OB-GYN), and proficiency with hospital activities related to the program following orientation, educational training, and competency training. Ability to gather pertinent information from mothers, support enrollment efforts, and help mothers feel at ease providing extremely sensitive and confidential information are all essential. Excellent decision-making, oral/written communication, organizational, and PC skills will be expected. The position will be based on Long Island, NY but may provide coverage at our collection sites in NYC and the Bronx.
