JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the
Manager of Inventory Control, the Shift Supervisor of Operations &
Logistics assists in the supervision of personnel in the receipt, storage,
rotation and delivery of equipment, supplies, and other items throughout Cook
County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) as assigned. Works to maintain appropriate inventory
levels for all stock supplies. Prepares
a record of quantity discrepancy shortages.
Ensures updates to inventory as necessary.

Administrative Responsibilities
Collective Bargaining
- Review
applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to
generate management proposals - Participate
in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions and working meeting
Discipline
- Document,
recommend and effectuate discipline at all levels - Work
closely with labor relations and/or labor counsel to effectuate and enforce
applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements - Initiate,
authorize and complete disciplinary action pursuant to CCHHS system rules,
policies, procedures and provision of applicable collective bargaining
agreements
Supervision
- Direct
and effectuate CCHHS management policies practices - Access
and proficiently navigate CCHHS records system to obtain and review information necessary to execute
provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements
Management
- Contribute
to the management of CCHHS staff and CHHSS’ systemic development and success - Discuss
and develop CCHHS system policy and procedure - Consistently
use independent judgment to identify operational staffing issues and needs and
perform the following functions as necessary; hire. transfer, suspend, layoff,
recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct or discipline employees pursuant to
applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements - Work
with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary
Typical Duties
- Assists in the assignment, supervision, and evaluation of work performed
by Storekeepers as assigned. - Assists in the selection process for hiring of new personnel and provides input on other personnel-related matters.
- Documents and reports disciplinary matters to immediate supervisor.
- Assists in the training
of new personnel in inventory
control and central
supply functions. - Serves as a working
supervisor in maintaining control of supplies
as well as maintenance of physical par locations for stock using
supply technology including Lawson and mobile supply
chain hand held readers. - Ensures the use of appropriate methods by shift personnel and unloads trucks and expedites delivery of stock and non-stock items, computer entry of all receipts, operating
and generating reports in the Lawson Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system,
and processes shortages
and returns. - Ensures that shift personnel
pull online orders, picks and distributes orders, stocks supplies, stores logical unit of measure (LUM) orders,
and processes all inventory
transactions relative to central supply stock. - Generates anticipated order and on-hand reports
daily, verifies accuracy of reports, recommends changes and prepares stock orders for purchasing. - Maintains appropriate inventory levels for all stock supplies, prepares and maintains
stock items master deletes obsolete
items list,
processes product changes
and additions and updates inventory transactions on the financial items master computer
system. - Researches and maintains records
of quantity discrepancies shortages, changes in usage units of measure and conversions.
Updates inventory
system and performs
physical adjustments as necessary. - Performs and supervises regular
cycle counts and ensures updates
to inventory as necessary. - Coordinates that stock is checked in, transferred,
issued, and returned
properly. - Maintains, cleans, stocks,
and delivers designated equipment such as intravenous (IV) pumps, digital thermometers, and glucose meters. - Stocks and issues crash carts.
- Shares in the CCHHS Supply Chain
vision; demonstrates its values, supports its philosophy, and is sensitive
to its mission. - Performs related duties as required.
Minimum
Qualifications
- High
School Diploma or GED is required (must
provide proof at time of interview) - Five (5) years of storekeeping work experience in
a healthcare setting is required - Two (2) years of supervisory work experience in
inventory control and material handling

Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of supply chain operations and logistics.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) systems such as
Lawson, PeopleSoft, McKesson/HBO & Company (McKesson/HBOC) or similar ERP systems. - Knowledge of hospital complex, storeroom procedures, related department policies and procedures and the operations of material handling equipment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively assign,
prioritize, review and evaluate the work of others. - Ability to exercise independent judgment regarding inventory control operations and appropriate levels of support required.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to confidential information including financial data,
union and labor agreements, personnel decisions and hire/fire
activity. - Ability to operate a personal computer
to prepare, generate
and maintain accurate records and reports. - Ability to follow departmental and CCHHS guidelines
related to performing the duties of this position. - Ability to follow and issue oral and written
