HCA Nurse Residency Program (Medical Unit)

StaRN Program
(12 weeks total):

  • The StaRN Program is primarily designed to provide the graduate nurse with the tools necessary to succeed in todays hospital environment.
  • It will help the graduate nurse transition out of the classroom setting onto the unit by providing the following training:
    • 5 weeks classroom, self-study, skills & simulations
    • 7 weeks preceptorship in the Medical Unit
    • Certification achieved:

After StaRN, the graduate nurse will transition to our Professional Development Residency

  • 9 month program factored into your full time position in the Medical Unit
  • Obtain Charge Nurse and Preceptor skills
  • Partnered with a mentor to complete an evidence based Capstone Project (4 hours a month)
  • Your project could get reviewed by corporate for further recognition 

Additional Information about our Medical Unit:

  • 23 bed unit- all private beds

  • Complex Care Patients to include traumatic brain injuries, strokes, complex wounds, and sub-acute rehab patients who receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy daily

  • Average length of stay for complex care patients is 41 days

  • 4:1 nurse patient ratio with tech support

  • Teamwork and family-oriented environment where everyone supports each other to achieve highest patient care and satisfaction

  • This unit requires nurses who are team players, highly engaged, hardworking, and proactive in growing self professionally
