Upon graduation with an Associate or Bachelor degree in Nursing from an NLN or CCNE accredited and state- approved program the Graduate Nurse will enter the TriStar Nurse Residency Program (TNRP). Nurse Residents will be licensed in their state as Registered Nurses and will provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide emotional support to patients and their family members. Nurse Residents will remain in the TNRP for their first year of practice and will develop the skills to use independent and reasonable judgment in providing a wide variety of patient care services as per the scope of nursing practice.

 

Nurse Residents who have not passed their NCLEX exam by the start date of the program will be restricted to job functions that do not require a nursing license during their orientation.

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: With License

  1. Demonstrates the facilitys standards of performance, values, and behaviors.
  2. Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist(s).
  3. Complies with hospital policies/procedures/protocols and patient safety initiatives to ensure evidence-based care.
  4. Assesses, monitors, records, reports, and follows through on symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  5. Demonstrates age specific knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and care of patients.
  6. Ensures the privacy of our patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).
  7. Utilizes nursing process for individual care to meet needs of patients.
  8. Demonstrates customer service excellence.
  9. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
  10. Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  11. Documents all patient care - creates and maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
  12. Promotes and exhibits teamwork - consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and modify the plan of care, as indicated by the patients responses and conditions.
  13. Delegates nursing tasks as appropriate and safe, but retains accountability for patient care.
  14. Provides individualized education for the patient, family, and or caregiver throughout the continuum of care.
  15. Adheres to standards of safety and infection control, in the delivery of patient care.
  16. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and complies with all policies and procedures related to the performance of job duties.
  17. Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives as listed on the Performance Management Plan.
  18. Attends all orientation and TNRP educational sessions.
  19. Completes mandatory education.

If the Nurse Resident is an Associate Degree graduate - he/she must enroll in and be actively pursuing a BSN degree at the completion of the year-long residency program. This program of study must be completed within four (4) years from the Nurse Residency program hire date.

Note:
Nurse Residents who are waiting for results from the Kentucky Board of Nursing will function as Registered Nurse Applicants (RNA) with the performance expectations below.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Without  License

The Nurse Resident who has not passed their NCLEX will function in the Patient Care Technician role and will perform direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse:

  1. Demonstrates HCAs and the facilitys standards of performance, values, and behaviors.
  2. Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  3. Assists with stocking supplies.
  4. Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist. (See attached)
  5. Demonstrates ability to implement fall prevention strategies.
  6. Communicates effectively with the members of the healthcare team as needed.
  7. Complies with hospital policies/procedures/protocols and patient safety initiatives to ensure evidence-based care.
  8. Monitors, records, reports, and follows through on symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  9. Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development in regards to delivering appropriate care to patients of all ages across the lifespan.
  10. Ensures the privacy of our patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).
  11. In collaboration with the supervising nurse provides individualized care to meet the needs of patients.
  12. Participates in performance improvement and customer service initiatives.
  13. Demonstrates customer service excellence.
  14. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
  15. Safely manages hazardous materials and waste.
  16. Reports equipment issues as they occur and flags equipment as out-of-order as appropriate.
  17. Demonstrates knowledge of infection protection guidelines; practices standard precautions; consistently follows hand hygiene policy.
  18. Documents all patient care - creates and maintains accurate and detailed records.
  19. Promotes and exhibits teamwork working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.
  20. Assists patients with activities of daily living as appropriate.
  21. Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in the delivery of patient care.
  22. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and complies with all policies and procedures related to the performance of job duties.
  23. Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives as listed on the Performance Management Plan.
  24. Attends all orientation and completes all mandatory education on time.
