Clear Lake Regional Medical Center is looking for a Charge Nurse (RN)- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)  


  1. Responsible for ensuring a smooth and efficient nursing operation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  2. Serves as a clinical resource to nurses in the NICU.  Must meet the position requirements for the Staff RN in the NICU.
  3. Responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients.
  4. Responsible for maintaining competence in the care of infant and neonatal patients (e.g., RNC preferred).
  5. Collaborates with LIP to ensure neonates are in the appropriate level of care.
  6. Assessing equipment and supplies on a daily basis to ensure that appropriate equipment is available in the NICU for patient care.
  7. Responsible for making staff assignments based on acuity and skill mix of available staff.
  8. Ensuring the availability of admission beds for both levels of care.
  9. Assists in the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services (which includes ancillary departments).
  10. Participates in performance improvement to ensure high quality, safe patient care.
  11. Serves as a mentor to those RNs who wish to maintain/increase skill level.
  12. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Pediatric Executive Committee, Nurse Manager and the Nurse Director that guide and support the provision of services.
  13. Supervises RNs, Nurse Techs and Secretaries.
  14. Serve as a role model for professionalism in the unit.  Counsel employees as appropriate.
  15. Provide PRN relief to nursing staff (e.g. lunch coverage).
  16. Provide thorough charge RN report.
  17. Serve as a “champion” of hospital and unit policies .
  18. Perform weekly checks (e.g. refrigerator) as appropriate.
  19. Perform unit audits as assigned by Nurse Manager or Director.
  20. Perform yearly evaluations of nursing staff.
  21. Participate in unit-based and hospital wide committees.
  22. Perform other related duties as specified.
Interaction with other Departments:  Works closely with the Assistant Nurse Managers, Nurse Managers and Directors in Womens and Childrens Services.  Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, nurse practitioners, patients and their families.
