Position Responsibilities: The Assistant Risk Manager assists in facilitating and implementing the hospital-wide risk management and patient safety plan; collaborates with physicians and staff to improve patient care, safety and outcomes; performs chart reviews to provide to attorneys and/or to identify quality issues and areas of risk and formulate corrective action plans or mitigation strategies. Performs monitoring for sustained improvement; assists in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including The Joint Commission, CMS and NY State Department of Health 405 Regulations. Assists in procuring and maintaining appropriate insurances for the Hospital and its employed staff. Investigates and responds to legal requests for information on Hospital lawsuits. Assists in investigating allegations of abuse by patients. Inputs data into departmental databases, performs patient safety rounds and environment of care rounds on patient care units, and provides performance improvement oversight and guidance to the Environment of Care team members responsible for the seven Management Plans. Inputs check requests into the Lawson system.

Position Requirements Health care related Bachelor's Degree or NYS Registered Nurse License with a minimum of five years of recent Healthcare Risk Management experience. Knowledge of Federal and State healthcare regulations and Joint Commission standards. Ability to make professional presentations to large audiences. Ability to work independently and as part of a group. Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis elements and process. Consensus building skills. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles. Excellent oral/written communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office program (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
