Manager of Clinical Research

Clinical research is a cornerstone of the US Oncology Network. A large percentage of oncology clinical research done in the United States is conducted by the 452 US Oncology Clinics nationwide. Willamette Valley Cancer Institute – a key player with US Oncology Network on the West Coast – is looking for a new
Manager of Clinical Research. This person will manage all research conducted at WVCI, as well as supervise clinical and administrative research staff. This position requires high caliber leadership skills. The candidate must able to manage clinical and admin personnel, communicate effectively with all levels of professionals, and be able to enhance your team while conducting life changing research. JOB SCOPE:

Under limited supervision and reporting to senior management, is responsible for the management of the clinical research program in a practice. Responsible for supervising clinical research coordinators and other research staff. Ensures site research quality by practicing in compliance with US Oncology Research, Inc. (USOR) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for recruitment and retention of practice-based research staff.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws.

  • Coordinates employee work schedules and TOWP.

  • Responsible for implementation and evaluation of staff annual performance objectives and development goals.

  • Coordinates staff training and in-services.

  • Collaborates with practice management staff in the development and implementation of the research budget that includes accrual targets and financial objectives for each research location; develops accountability standards for each research location to ensure that targets and budgets are achieved.

  • Collaborates with site research leader (SRL) and research staff in the implementation of action plans designed to improve practice research operations and quality assurance functions.

  • Manages the clinical research operation in a practice for all research staff members in accordance with USON SOP and ICH GCP guidelines.

  • Responsible for ensuring at the administrative level that all research activities are coordinated with all departments within the practice.

  • Collaborates with the SRL, physicians of the practice and research committee in the process of study selection for the research program.

  • Responsible for marketing the research program to the practice, community and referring physicians.

  • Responsible for coordinating research activities with other (non-USOR) bases or sponsors.

  • May be responsible for functioning in the role of clinical research coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors degree in a clinical or scientific related discipline desired

  • Bachelors degree nursing preferred.

  • Minimum of seven years nursing, clinical, or scientific related discipline - preferably in oncology.

  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of practice preferred.

  • Current BCLS or ACLS certification required for nurses.

  • SoCRA or ARCP certification preferred.
