The L&D Surgical Technician
in collaboration with the surgical team, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assumes responsibility for the care and safety of the perioperative patient, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during surgical and other invasive procedures.  He/She assumes the responsibility for ensuring effective communication with the circulator, the patient, the surgeon and the other members of the surgical team. The L&D Surgical Technician performs routine scrub as well as specifically delegated duties according to AORN and O.R. Standards of Care.  The quality of care given will be in keeping with the philosophy, objectives and policies of the hospital in order to meet the health care needs of the perioperative patient.

The L&D Surgical Technician
is responsible for the direct and indirect care of his/her assigned patients.  The position requires intimate knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care.  Interpretive skills frequent interactive and consultative associations are inherent in the position.  The ability to retrieve, communicate, or otherwise present information in written, auditory, or visual fashion is essential.  The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word.  Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required for the position.  While performing this job, the employee may assist patients of  varying and diverse cultures.

Professionally and maintaining confidentiality, promptly greets patients and visitors and answers/screens/routes telephone calls.  Will assist patients with personal care, activities of daily living and completes transfers/transports.  Clean and stocks patient rooms, procedure rooms, and equipment.  Maintains strict aseptic technique while preparing the room for an invasive procedure and while scrubbing for a procedure.

Demonstrates commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient falls and National Patient Safety Goals. As part of the Women's Services team, the Surgical Technician demonstrates commitment to all infant security measures
