  Nurse Manager - Operating Room - Legacy Emanuel Medical Center



JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse Manager serves as the accountable department manager for a designated patient care unit/department(s). She/he has responsibility for all daily operational activities including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget, ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care, and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24 hours a day, seven days a week responsibility for all department functions. The manager is responsible for maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care. The manager routinely collaborates; works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy.

Job Qualifications:

Experience and Qualifications:

  • An academic degree in nursing is required (BSN or MSN/MN) A Master’s degree or higher is required. Internal or external candidates may be considered with verification of a master’s degree in progress.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a clinical nursing leadership role required. Demonstrated growth in leadership responsibilities and breadth desired.

  • Experience relating to Operating Room specialty area strongly preferred.

  • CNOR preferred; Oregon RN license or eligible to obtain.

  • Emanuel Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center and serves the needs of both adult hospital population as well as Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.

  • Responsible for OR Staff and Anesthesia Support. Direct supervision of approximately 150 employees including an Assistant Nurse Manager, Service Specialty Coordinators, full time Educator and Charge Nurses.

  • 22 Operating Rooms; an average of 60 cases/day.

  • Accountability for managing an annual operating budget of over $43,500,000.

  • $210 million dollar replacement and expansion to take place starting in 2017 – exciting opportunity for a leader with vision for how the OR of the future should look and operate.

  • Reports to the Director of Surgical and Interventional Services.

  • Skills:

    Demonstrated knowledge of clinical operations, including staffing and scheduling, budget management, workflow planning, staff development, quality, safety and patient experience management. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills, and a willingness to lead by example. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
