The PPAC is a telephonic patient care unit whose staff provide vital information to patients before their surgical procedures. The staff in this department provide comprehensive patient evaluations as well as educate patients regarding anesthesia services. Pre-procedure assessment includes the identification of any medical problems that need to be addressed prior to surgery, and can assist in the interpretation of pre-procedure diagnostic tests and labs.

 

​Hours: Department hours of operation are 0700-1730. Typical shift for PPAC interviewer is 0900-1730, may shift to 0700-1530 occasionally if employee requests.

The PPAC Clinical Nurse II is a competent practitioner who integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical experience in the care of patients and families preparing to undergo procedures.  Care is delivered using a deliberate, systematic approach and practice is guided by increasing awareness of patterns of patient responses in recurrent situations. These nurses demonstrate mastery of patient interview skills and provide patients and families with education, instructions and perform an accurate review of health history. The PPAC RN is competent in pre-surgical patient readiness, recognizes and places appropriate protocol orders, and facilitates follow up and follow through related to required lab, testing and assessments. Efficiently manages interview time with chart preparation activities and follow up care.
