Hospital: PORTER ADVENTIST HOSPITAL

Schedule: Part Time days- 20 hours per week/40 hours per pay period

Shift: 7am-2pm two days per week, and 7am-1pm one day per week//Monday-Friday-no call, no weekends or holidays

Position Summary

Applies nursing critical thinking processes to evaluate patient care by conducting concurrent trauma patient care evaluation through EMR, abstraction and clinical rounds. Assists in the coordination of care and trauma performance improvement with other trauma service team members and accurately enters clinical data points into the trauma registry. Actively participates in the achievement of trauma service goals to maintain appropriate trauma center designation.

 

Minimum Education Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred

Completion of the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course from Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine upon hire or within 2 years of hire/transfer

 

Minimum Experience Requirements

Two years recent hospital based nursing experience

Basic computer skills

 

License/Certifications

Current state RN license for applicable state of employment Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Current ACLS and TNCC upon hire or within one year of hire/transfer CSTR Registry Certification upon hire or within 3 years of hire/transfer Membership to a related professional organization preferred (Society of Trauma Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association), preferred

 

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

 

Identifies patients with primary care physicians and from outreach institutions for immediate follow-up.*

 

Identifies trauma patient care issues/concerns and independently coordinates with other trauma team members (attending physician staff, trauma program manager, trauma medical director, trauma service physician assistants, and nursing staff) to address in a timely fashion. Assures that developed protocols for Trauma Services are being

followed by observation and participation.*

Maintains trauma registry, including data collection, data analysis, auditing data for completeness and accuracy,

coding and data entry. Develops and delivers reports as requested. *

May participated in patient rounds on in-house trauma patients. Acts as a resource for patient/families members. *

Serves as a liaison between staff in the emergency department, operating room, inpatient nursing units, ancillary

departments, and physicians.*

 Reviews trauma team activations and assesses for appropriateness based on established criteria.*

 May provide lectures which address trauma prevention and current care issues.*

 May participate in community activities related to trauma care and injury prevention.*

 Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and processes. *

 Assists with preparation for State and ACS reviews and verifications.*

 Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings

and workshops to remain current with industry changes. *

 Assists in training trauma staff and other hospital personnel. *

 Acts as a resource for new staff members and co-workers by sharing information and providing education. *

 Adheres to professional code of ethics and to all accreditation and regulatory requirements. *

 Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity

requirements. *

 Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and

flexibility. *
