This announcement is not intended to cover all the duties, responsibilities or qualifications of this position. This position is part time LVN,at the George H. O'Brien, Jr. VA Medical Center, for The West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, TX., in the Fort Stockton Clinic. The selected individual in conjunction with the RN will be responsible for the hands on direct care of outpatient clinic patients to include phlebotomy.

Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to participate in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Work Schedule: The clinic is open on Tuesday and Thursday 0800-1630. This is a part-time position.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship -Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English language proficiency - Must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Licensure - Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Education - Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved be the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Grade Determinations: Applicants education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Boardto determine the grade and salary of the applicant selected.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary but also requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items. The position requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or assisting patients.
