Position:  Patient Sitter - Psych ED Department -Full-Time, Mixed Shifts


The sitter functions under the supervision of a registered nurse when performing assigned duties. The principle responsibilities include sitting/monitoring patients that are high risk for falls and/or risk of injury to self of others, by direct observation and/or a video monitoring system. The sitter also performs other duties as assigned. In addition, sitters support patient safety initiatives, quality improvement activities, demonstrate essentials of professional courtesy, respect, customer service, cultural diversity and reliability. The Sitter elevates the patient experience in every interaction. 


Sitters will maintain competency with skills required for the assigned duty and or unit/department and demonstrates knowledge regarding standards of care and standards of practice in the assigned area. He/She demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth, development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status. Sitters also communication patient status to the registered nurse. 


Sitters will maintain and project a professional image in manner of dress, personal appearance, grooming, hygiene and conduct at all times. Sitters remain calm in crisis and emergency situations and follow direction from other staff members as appropriate. They maintain effective working relationships with all members of the care team.
