  Job Duties

The Unit Director is responsible for the fiscal, human resources, clinical, materials management, and communication operations of the nursing unit, 7E/5E Acute Medicine. The Manager Functional Area's professional role description is based on ANA's Nursing Administration's Scope of Standards and UCLA's Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Job Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and current, active California R.N. licensure. BSN with a Masters in a related field or MSN degree required. National Certification in specialty preferred. 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience required. Experience in Acute Medicine/Telemetry preferred.
Skills required in leading and mentoring Nursing staff sufficient to ensure ongoing compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements.
Skills in developing and implementing new programs through continuing education, staff meetings, training programs, standing committees and research.
Ability to assist clinical staff with management of difficult patient/family or clinical problems identified through the performance improvement or other process, human resource management, fiscal management and patient satisfaction
Knowledge of principles and practices of patient care related to area of expertise.
Knowledge of management principles and practices. Knowledge of the principles of sound fiscal management. Ability to counsel and teach.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, patients, and families.
Ability to write concisely and maintain written communications. Working knowledge of University, Medical Center and Departmental policies and procedures. Ability to support institutional standards and operations system,
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with Critical Thinking Skills.
Skills in prioritizing.
Experience working in an Academic Medical Center and Magnet organization preferred.
