||We have an immediate opportunity for Patient Care Technician (PCT).
General Summary: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists the Nursing Department in the care of patients. The PCT ensures that LifeCare Hospital’s philosophy, standards, policies and procedures are met and maintained in a professional manner. The PCT is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.
Patient Population: Has contact with patients in a clinical setting; understands and demonstrates appropriate behavior when interacting with patients in the adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.
Provides patient care under the direction of the nursing staff in a competent and proficient manner. Assists nurses in identifying and responding to patient needs during rounds (e.g., personal needs, safety needs, etc.). Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the assigned nurse, or nursing supervisor, of any risk factors seen, initiating and maintaining appropriate safety measures. Responds appropriately and assists others in emergency situations in a calm and effective manner. Plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care. Communicates patient status and changes in patient condition to the nurse and next shift for continuity of care. Accurately completes and documents assignments (e.g., vital signs, blood glucose, meals, intake/output, etc.) Maintains equipment; ensuring equipment is clean and in working order; assures supplies are adequate. The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served, and other special needs of patients or customers served by the department. Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.This description is a general statement of required essential functions performed on a regular and continuous basis. Supervision: Not applicable.
Experience: Six to twelve months of experience in an acute clinical setting is preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current CNA certification in the state where practicing if required. Current BLS certification is required. All PCTs must maintain current CNA certification, if applicable and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
