Department Description

Our Medical/Surgical Unit is a 36 bed unit focused on providing a high level of direct and individualized care to treat patients with a variety of general and specialized surgical procedures, including orthopedic, bariatric, urology, and cardiac. General medical population to include respiratory, endocrine, nephrology, neurology, cardiology and wound care.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a PRN Med/Surg RN position!

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care
  • Assists physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
  • Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Performs a variety of tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department


  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited RN program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an acute care hospital med/surg unit
  • Orthopedics experience highly desired
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience on a telemetry unit is preferred
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas
  • American Heart Association (AHA) approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Must be willing to complete Med/Surg Certification within 12 months of hire
  • Team player with a strong commitment to providing superior patient care
  • Must be flexible with high energy and desire to learn and grow
  • Must exhibit exceptional customer service skills
