What You Will Do:

Job Summary

The Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing total, comprehensive care to patients by applying the nursing process in an organized and systematic manner according to institutional policy. The Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing complex health problems and coordinating health care for the newborn and pediatric patient in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status). Hospitalist role is based on pediatric preparation in the acute care setting. The PNP reports to the Pediatric chairman and collaborates with on call pediatricians assigned to University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.

What You Need to Be Successful:

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Master’s Degree (Required) as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Certification/ Licensure/ Registration
  • Certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and is eligible to obtain license in the state of MD (Required)
  • MD CDS and Federal DEA licensure (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Required)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Required)
  • Registered Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Experience and Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as an acute care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner working in a general pediatric unit (Required) or PICU Nursery experience (preferred).
  • Required Skills: Strong Verbal Communication Skills, Strong Written Communications Skills, Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Basic Computer Skills, Excellent Organizational Skills, Strong Customer Services Skills, Proven Analytical Skills.
  • Required Technical Skills: Lumbar Puncture for Pediatric and Neonatal Patients, Suture and or Dermabond Skin Closures, Intravenous Access, Arterial Blood Gas, Incision and Drainage of Small Wounds, Basic EKG and Xray Interpretations.
