Our upcoming Family Centered Care (Mother Baby) Residency at the Cherokee campus will begin March 19th, 2018 and lasts for 14 weeks. This residency is open to all New Graduate RN's and Experienced RN's looking to gain experience and training in Family Centered Care.

FCC – Family Centered Care; 11 bed Mother/Baby Unit currently (we have plans to add 9 more licensed beds in the fall). FCC nurses may have to care for postpartum mothers and babies in L&D when our census dictates. We deliver approximately 20,000 babies per year between all three campuses (Atlanta, Forsyth, and Cherokee) with about 1200 here at the Cherokee campus. This is the most deliveries per year in the country. FCC (Family Centered Care) means that we take care of the family as a whole; mothers, babies, fathers, siblings, and extended family. Our care extends beyond the traditional family to adoptions and surrogacies with protocols in place to ensure optimal care for everyone.

The role of the FCC nurse is to provide couplet care and education for both mother and baby. A typical assignment is 1 Nurse: 3-5 couplets. Our shifts are 12 ½ hours with group report starting promptly at 0700 and 1900. It is a very busy, fast paced environment. In addition to the FCC nurse, there are Anchor Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Case Managers, Clinicians, Charge Nurses, Clinical Supervisors, and Clinical Managers, Operations Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, & Directors.

The Clinical Supervisors and Charge Nurses are key to the daily flow. Clinical Supervisors/Charge Nurses are on the floor with the FCC nurses and other staff. They work closely with them to meet our patient’s needs and provide exceptional care. They are available for questions and assistance, meet with staff monthly to foster relationship building and keep you aware of important issues in the department. They are also responsible for writing and conducting the performance evaluations, and have other administrative responsibilities.

We focus first and foremost on patient satisfaction. We believe that the patient comes first, then the team, then the individual. This results in our goal of excellent customer service and patient satisfaction.
