  NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The medical center is central to a comprehensive network of affiliated ambulatory and outpatient practices, and serves as NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn's anchor for healthcare access, growth, and delivery in the entire borough.
Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a RN Instructor.

In this role, the successful candidate The Instructor is a Registered Professional Nurse with advanced education and experience who provides for the orientation of new staff members; teaches required courses; provides in-service training; and provides educational programs identified through performance management and assessment of individual and staff needs.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Complies with NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn's compliance program and all its aspects.
  • Assimilates core values compassion, dignity, integrity and service, throughout all processes.
  • Participates in Performance Management activities by assisting the NM/ANCC/CNS to monitor the quality and appropriateness of patient care on specific assigned units
  • Maintains professional competency through participating in and attending continuing education conferences and other appropriate learning experiences.
  • Participates in Patient Care Services Councils and Committees as assigned.
  • Serves as a consultant/resource person to nursing staff in the interpreting policy, procedure standards and principles and practices of nursing care
  • Utilizes and maintains the classroom in a clean and orderly fashion in order to provide an environment conducive to learning
  • Updates and maintains the Instructors Nursing Education and Orientation Manuals
  • Utilizes efficiency and economy in the use of educational equipment, materials and supplies
  • Organizes and maintains educational materials for the department. Catalogs resources and makes recommendations for selections and preparation of instructional materials
  • Assists in the development of professional development activities such as conferences, research activities, and seminars.
  • Includes age specific considerations in educational content, utilizing resources as needed.
  • Uses appropriate resources as necessary, in the planning and presenting of educational programs.
  • Utilizes creative teaching strategies to promote learning and active staff participation including self-learning strategies
  • Communicates to staff both written and verbally the objectives of the educational programs to encourage staff participation and involvement.
  • Completes the class content outline on programs including; objectives, content, method of presentation and evaluation and submits to AVP for review.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs for the nursing staff.
  • Participates in competency assessment and evaluation of all patient care staff
  • Plans and teaches both formal and informal education programs on nursing practice including JC state required classes and performance management issues.
  • Assesses on-going educational needs of the nursing staff in conjunction with nursing leadership on their assigned units.
  • Completes and maintains required records, program evaluations, attendance sheets, quarterly reports and staff evaluations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participates in the analysis of orientation programs to evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of material presented and teaching strategies. Suggests and implements revisions.
  • Meets regularly during orientation with orientee, preceptor and Nurse Manager to review progress and set objectives.
  • Confers with AVP of Nursing Education regarding the competency of the new staff members and provides post-orientation evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Provides teaching instructions to new staff members in the formal and informal orientation programs while assessing and evaluating nursing staff performance and competency during orientation.
  • Participates in the planning and analysis of orientation programs to meet the needs of new nursing staff members.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in Nursing required
NY State RN license
Four to five years of recent full time Nursing experience required with teaching experience preferred.
Demonstrated patient care competency.
Previous involvement in orientation process preceptorship/internship programs.
Demonstrates an understanding of the teaching-learning process.
Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
