What You Will Do:

1. Processes patient specimens according to established protocols.
a. Evaluates acceptability of specimen based on criteria for assays to be performed
b. Appropriately documents suboptimal or rejected specimens.
c. Assures immediate handling of STAT specimens.
2. Assays Laboratory specimens
a. Performs assays according to established procedures .
b. Performs repeat testing as required by laboratory protocols.
c. Monitors pending list and/or specimen tracking screen to assure that all tests are performed on all specimens within the laboratory turn around time criteria
3. Reports Results
a. Assures accuracy and plausibility of results before they are released.
b. Calls and documents all critical results as defined and described in laboratory policy.
c. For suboptimal specimens, attaches appropriate caution comment to the affected assay results.
4. Performs and documents routine maintenance and function check procedures.
5. Monitors status of all reagents
a. Ensures that reagents are prepared and handled as described in departmental procedures.
b. Calibrates as required by instructions for use or if required for quality purposes.
c. Validates new reagent lots as required in departmental policy.
6. Performs quality control procedures
a. Runs quality control as described in departmental procedures.
b. Evaluates results of controls for acceptability before reporting patient results.
c. Follows established departmental procedures if control results are outside acceptable limits.
7. Maintains a clean and well-stocked work area; inventories supplies when assigned
8. Maintains competency
a. Reviews procedure manuals as required in laboratory policy.
b. Meets continuing education requirements defined in laboratory policy.
c. Performs assays on proficiency testing surveys as assigned by the supervisor and in the manner described in laboratory policy.
9 Follows the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
a. Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director;
b. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.


What You Need to Be Successful:

Previous work as a Medical Technologist in a hospital-based clinical laboratory setting preferred.
Will consider new grads also!
