Service Area Overview
We recognize each patient’s journey to recovery is different and requires a special level of care. Our Medical/Surgical Unit at Northside Hospital provides acute and rehabilitative nursing care services to help our patients get back to their daily lives. The Med/Surg unit is characterized by a warm, friendly and caring atmosphere that stresses individual attention for all patients. This approach is reflected in outstanding patient satisfaction survey results. The unit also participates in nursing education by providing internships for students. We also support clinical internships for Patient Care Technicians. If you have the skills to contribute to our team, Northside is eager to talk to you!

Position Description
Administers and directs the hospital‑wide IV Therapy program, provides direct patient care and supervises assigned personnel. Maintains twenty‑four (24) hour accountability for clinical services provided by the IV Therapy Team. Acts as a clinical resource for medical and nursing staff.

Serves all patients including, but not limited to pediatrics, adolescent, adults and geriatrics. Maintains competency in IV therapy skills, including PICC placement competency. Initial PICC placement competency will be established. Thereafter competency may be maintained by occasional line placement as determined by staffing needs. Supervises nursing/patient care staff, including orienting, training, counseling, and evaluating. Schedules staff, authorizes paid time off (PTO) and overtime, checks and approves e-time.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED: 1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. a. Three (3) years’ experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty OR b. Bachelor’s in Nursing with Two (2) years experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty 2. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and make appropriate clinical and supervisory decisions. Must possess good problem solving skills. 3. Successful completion of a management course prior to appointment, or within six (6) months of employment. 4. Demonstrated leadership capabilities. 5. Certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). 6. Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required based on department needs. PREFERRED: 1. National certification in specialty. 2. Previous management/charge nurse experience. 3. Three (3) years of experience in nursing with minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty. 4. B.S. degree in Nursing. Center for Perinatal Medicine: 1. Previous experience in OB Ultrasonagraphy. 2. Previous experience in physician office environment.
