This round of our Labor & Delivery Residency is open to New RN Graduates and Experienced RN's looking to gain experience and training in L&D. This is a 20 week Residency that will begin April 16th, 2018.

NorthsideHospital has been the comforting, familiar presence for mothers-to-be in Atlanta for more than a generation. In fact, the hospital is the undisputed leader in maternity services, delivering more babies a year than any other community hospital in the country. Northside Hospital delivers approximately 20,000 babies per year between all three campuses (Atlanta, Forsyth, and Cherokee) with over 18,000 at the Atlanta campus.

Northside Hospital Labor and Delivery is comprised of labor/delivery/recovery rooms, pre-op rooms, observation rooms, operating rooms and recovery PACU rooms. Labor and Delivery provides a wide range of full patient care services to low and high risk pregnant women of childbearing age. These services include low and high risk antepartum inpatient and outpatient care, intrapartum care, associated services, initial newborn care, immediate postpartum and/or surgical recovery.

Labor and Delivery has:
  • 42 Labor and Delivery/Recovery Beds
  • 23 High-Risk Pregnancy Beds
  • 4 Pre-Operative Beds
  • 5 ORS
  • 8 bed PACU
  • 388 Current L&D Employees

Skilled patient care is provided in a Family Centered atmosphere with an emphasis on the care of the woman during pregnancy, labor, and immediate postpartum care and immediate stabilization of the newborn following delivery. Our care extends beyond the traditional family to adoptions and surrogacies with protocols in place to ensure optimal care for everyone

Position Description
The American Nurses Association’s Nursing’s Social Policy Statement: The Essence of the Profession (ANA, 2010, p. 3) provides the definition of nursing as: “Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.” The scope of practice of the registered nurse and the corresponding standards and competencies are dependent on the nurse’s education, experience, role and population served (ANA, Scope of Practice & Standards, 2010, p. 2). The practice of professional nursing at Northside Hospital includes the domains of Professional Nursing Practice and Professional Nursing Performance. Practice components within the Professional Nursing Practice domain include assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation and coordination of care, and evaluation; and those within the Professional Nursing Performance are ethics, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, communication, leadership, collaboration, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health (ANA, 2010). Additionally, core tenets of nursing practice at Northside also include technology and computer information systems performance. The Staff Registered Professional Nurse I (Staff RN I) is licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Georgia, in good standing and without limitations; and has less than 12 months of full-time experience as a registered professional nurse. A Staff Registered Professional Nurse I demonstrates the integration of bio-psychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to a patients and families with basic and/or complex needs. The Northside Hospital Staff Registered Professional Nurse manages patient care of an assigned group of patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the nursing division, including the Nursing Collaborative Care Model. Additionally, the practice of all professional nurses at Northside Hospital reflects the values of collaboration, communication, coordination, integration, and empowerment. Northside Hospital Staff Registered Nurse positions are based on a sequential progression from a novice nurse to an expert. The job descriptions for Staff Nurse I to VI therefore imply that a nurse who is employed at a specific level possess the knowledge, skills and critical thinking capabilities of all prior (lower) levels. Staff RN I is the entry to practice level for Northside nurses. STAFF RN I: The Staff RN I position is part of the NSH Nursing Excellence Track (NEXT) Program. Level I staff registered professional nurses are competent nurses and practice professional nursing in various clinical areas.

Position Requirements
REQUIRED: 1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification for specific specialty area(s); Examples: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, etc.
