Director of Nursing - Skilled Nursing Facility
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. A minimum of 3 years management experience in a skilled nursing facility. Recommended background would be five years as a Director of Nursing or a combination of three years as Director of Nursing and two years as Director of Staff Development. Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California, and must possess a current CPR card.
BASIC FUNCTION: The primary purpose of the position is to direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing unit and to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to assure that the highest degree of quality care is provided to the residents at all times. Provide professional assistance to all residents and staff of St. Paul's Senior Homes and Services when not precluded by other duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assumes responsibility and accountability of directing the activities and programs of the facility, in consultation with the Administrator, COO, or CEO as necessary, in the absence of the Administrator.
Supervise Assistant Director of Nursing in daily responsibilities and duties per DONs discretion.
Participate as a member of the Culture Change committees and teams, partnering with the Administrator to assist in developing and implementing culture change projects. This may include attendance at education seminars/meetings and instructing/education staff members regarding Culture Change.
Serves on various committees of the facility as directed or as may become necessary, or as required by Federal, State, or local regulations. Also serves as the facilitys Safety Officer, chairing the facilitys safety committee, and attending and representing the Health Center on the St. Pauls Safety Officers Committee.
Evaluates and implements recommendations from the facility's committees and/or consultants.
Ensures the availability of a responsible staff member to assume administrative responsibility in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Plans, develops, organizes implements, evaluates, and directs the Nursing Department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current State and Federal regulations and guidelines that govern Nursing Facilities, maintaining regulatory compliance at all times.
