As an Unit Manager - RN, you will oversee the care management of a population of patients within an assigned area, unit or clinical function. The position conducts the nursing process, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under the scope of the State's Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. Job Specific Details:

Job Summary:? The Unit Manager oversees the care management of a population of patients within an assigned area, unit or clinical function. The position conducts the nursing process ? assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation ? under the scope of the State?s Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. The position coordinates resource utilization, timely and appropriate care interventions, and interdisciplinary communication to enhance patient and family satisfaction, adherence to center?s clinical systems and regulatory compliance.

Staff Development:? Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings to maintain current certification and as managed by regulatory agencies and company policies ** Participates in QAA process

Leadership Fundamentals:? Accepts accountability for services provided to recipients ** Promotes shared decision-making by providing input into care decisions and by keeping staff informed of patient care activities ** Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and others in planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care delivery ** Maintains and evaluates an environment that empowers and supports nurse managers in problem solving and in decision-making to address identified issues ** Ensures accountability for professional practice ** Flexes hours when necessary to accommodate staff education; to address patient care issues; and to meet with family members unavailable during routine shift hours ** Participates in weekend clinical coverage and "on call" rotation ensuring continuity of patient care, staff supervision and availability of nursing leadership to families and visitors.

Clinical Systems:? Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of healthcare ** Promotes nursing process and critical thinking in nursing care delivery ** Ensures patients? rights, safety, and choices are safeguarded ** Ensure patient have needed supplies and equipment to properly manage care ** Participates in clinical risk identification, strategy planning, and risk reduction ** Makes daily rounds and spot checks documentation accuracy and completeness on new admissions, patients with change in condition, patients triggering occurrence investigations, and patients to be discharged ** Visits each newly admitted patient as soon as possible upon arrival, validating accuracy of essentials audit and implementation of risk reducing measures ** Oversees and evaluates systems to plan, promote, develop, assess, interpret, validate and evaluate the implementation of clinical programs, policies, procedures and forms ** Oversees and evaluates systems for patient and staff data collection, information systems, and processes to support the practice of nursing and care delivery ** Oversees and evaluates systems for discharge planning and communication to be released with patient ** Facilitates and participates in occurrence investigation ensuring timely and accurate reporting to nursing administration ** Ensures staff competency for emergency response and clinical care delivery ** Ensures infection control standards and biohazard waste procedures are followed.

Personnel Development ** Participates in the recruitment, selection and retention of personnel ** Conducts education sessions, unit or functional area team meetings, and competency validation ** Evaluates performance of direct report personnel ** Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development for personnel ** Provides guidance for and supervises personnel.

Resource Utilization:? Oversees adequacy and appropriateness of staffing and scheduling personnel with scope of practice, competencies, patient needs and complexity of care ** Adjusts clinical resources and provides support to ensure patients? care needs are met

Fiscal Management:? Assists the Director of Nursing with planning, implementing, monitoring of the budget in assigned areas of responsibility ** Coordinates patient supply needs and accurate par levels through the ancillary specialist

Supervisory/People Management Responsibilities:? Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting continuing education programs and special in-service training sessions relevant to the needs of department personnel ** Ensures that employees are adequately oriented and trained to perform their duties ** Reviews employee performance annually and makes recommendations for pay increases, promotions or performance improvement plans as deemed appropriate ** Counsels/disciplines personnel as necessary up to and including termination ** Establishes and maintains effective two-way communication to understand the needs and concerns of employees ** Devotes adequate time and attention to personal development and training, particularly in the management of people resources ** Receives, investigates and responds to employee complaints

Administrative Responsibilities:? Maintains confidentiality of necessary information ** Participates in staff meetings, departmental head meetings and other center meetings and sits on required committees.

Education ** Currently licensed as RN in this state; Bachelor?s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience ** Two years experience as a RN with 1-year nursing supervisory experience.
