Job Summary:

Ensures excellence in the clinical/operational process and the delivery of patient care for Perioperative Services.

ASSUMES AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR APPROPRIATE CLINICAL NURSING PRACTICE AND PATIENT CARE PROCESSES.

* Utilizes the nursing process while delivering high quality patient care.

* Provides appropriate input, based on clinical expertise, into the formulation of patient care polices and procedures.

* Implements effective process changes based on identified opportunities for improvement.

* Utilizes universal precautions and aseptic principles when providing quality patient care.

* Monitors practices to ensure compliance with regulations and policy/procedure recommendations.

MANAGES HUMAN AND FISCAL RESOURCES TO FACILITATE EFFECTIVE NURSING PRACTICE AND QUALITY PATIENT CARE.

* Organizes staffing for specialties in an effective manner and in consideration of overall needs of the department.

* Assesses patient needs and staff qualifications when making staff assignments.

* Establishes and maintains supply and equipment inventory levels in specialty areas to ensure items are available when needed and in the appropriate amounts.

* Conducts performance evaluations as required, counsels staff with disciplinary issues, and maintains relevant personnel documentation as required.

FACILITATES AND PARTICIPATES IN EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES.

* Provides effective opportunities for growth and development of staff by identifying educational needs and developing learning experiences in collaboration with clinical instructor.

* Serves as an effective preceptor/resource, provides inservice education and participates performance improvement activities as requested.

* Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide Scott & White with the necessary documentation on such requirements.

* Participates are required in research projects.

* Contributes to the positive public image of Scott & White by serving as an active member in an appropriate professional organization.

PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

Associates Degree in Nursing

* Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse required.

* Three years experience required

* BCLS is required
