Mental Health Registered Nurse – Oregon State Hospital, Salem, OR

Duties & Responsibilities

•Provides direct oversight and supervision of clinical tasks of subordinated staff.

•Assess patient condition, including physical/medical nursing care needs and mental condition; develop nursing care plan in coordination with an interdisciplinary team. Observe and assess changes and trends in physical and/or mental condition of the patient; plan and implement therapeutic interventions and evaluate response to such interventions.

•Evaluate, transcribe and implement physician orders; administer oral and injectable medications and oversee the dispensing of oral and topical medications and treatments; administer nursing procedures such as oxygen administration, oral and nasal suctioning, tracheotomy care, etc.

•Keep accurate written records of patient’s care provided including nursing assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, medications administered, discharge planning, etc.

•Educates patients and family members about the patient's illness, including medications, daily living skills, money management, sex education, anger control, etc. Plan, organize, conduct and evaluate classes and psycho-educational groups for patients, nursing and/or therapy staff.

Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills

Candidates must obtain a Registered Nurse license from the Oregon State Board of Nursing before a final offer for employment can be made.

A Registered Nurse license must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time from application date.
