Department Description

The Float Pool RN will float within all units of the facility, including Med/Surg, Telemetry, Critical Care (ICU/PCU), Emergency Room, Surgical Services (OR, PACU, Pre-Op), Women's Services, Cath Lab, etc. Float pool nurses treat a diverse range of patients and is ideal for nurses who enjoy variety and can adapt to changing circumstances and challenges.

Position Description
  • Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care
  • Assists physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse
  • Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Performs a variety of tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited RN program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical and telemetry experience AND experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Intensive Care Unit / Progressive Care Unit (ICU/PCU)
    • Emergency Department (ED)
    • Pre-Op
    • Operating Room (OR)
    • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
    • Women’s Services
    • Cath Lab

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 90 days
  • Ability to be flexible and work autonomously a must
  • Team player with a strong commitment to providing superior patient care
