Roles and Responsibilities:

1. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned area.

2. Responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patientcare and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population.

3. Possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others.

4. Responsible and accountable for maintain BLS and/or ACLS training when required.

5. Accepts responsibilities delegated by the Nurse Manager and evaluates nursing care provided in the area assigned.

6. Maintains the patient's clinical records; assists with execution of the physician's orders; keeps accurate problem oriented nurses notes according to hospital policy.

7. Administers medications according to hospital policy.

8. Participates in or initiates CPR and Codes when necessary.

9. Serves on Nusing Committee when requested.

10. Other duties as assigned by Nurse Manager

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday w/ weekend and holiday shared rotations. Variable shifts available. May be required to work alternate shifts as deemed necessary by Nurse Manager/Service Chief.

Basic Requirements:

* U.S. Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.

*Full, unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

*Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6).

*Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Preferred/Required Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing

BCLS and ACLS is required

Evidence of strong positive interpersonal communication skills
